Repairable Dents

There are a lot of factors that qualify a dent for repair. One is the place of the dent, two is the size of the dent, three is the depth of the dent and four is the color of the vehicle.

“Where a dent is” refers to how close it is to the edge of a panel, which panel it is on, or what is behind that dent. For instance many vehicles now come with side impact bars which lay directly in the middle of door panels. These bars are sometimes large in size and are glued in place making access to the dent virtually impossible. Each panel is different and requires different methods of access. Quarter panels, doors and fenders require less invasive techniques to access; while pillars, roofs, hoods and trunks may require more invasive techniques to access them. Another area of a panel that may restrict a repair is braces. Braces are usually found at the top of door panels or sometimes at the top of quarter panels. Convertibles usually carry more bracing in the quarters to make up for the strength lost from the top being removed.

Size is exactly what it sounds like. Depending on how large the dent is some may be repaired using a percentage rating; 75% meaning the dent will be visible even after repair, 90% which means a trained eye such as another PDR technician or body shop specialist will spot the repair, and lastly 100% which means a successful dent repair.

Depth refers to how much the metal has stretched in the dent. If the metal is pushed beyond its limit the metal will stretch out and will not come back together. It is almost as if you pushed a piece of plastic beyond its limit. Once the limit is exceeded the plastic will no longer be flat again. So, what you are left with is either a dent repair that is too high or with the slightest touch the dent will return and the repair will have failed.

*Any dent that is the size of a half dollar or smaller is a $150 per panel plus tax.

*We charge per panel not per dent . Excessive damage (more than 5 dings) may require an additional fee.

* Any dents larger then a half dollar must be viewed in person to give a proper estimate.

The dent above is your normal size dent and can be repaired usually without any difficulties, as long as there is nothing obstructing the dent from behind (such as a brace, sound deadener). Above average dents such as this one above can be repaired but may require more time. We pride ourselves on dents such as these. These dents may cost a little bit more but are far cheaper than sending it to a body shop.
Large dents such as this require a lot of time and patience. Although they can be fixed, it will be a little bit more expensive. How expensive do you ask? Well the repair cost this customer $375. Not bad considering that the body shop gave him an estimate of $650. That's a huge difference considering that with the body shop your taking a gamble that (A) they will fix the dent right and (B) they will match the color properly and (c) you will get your car back in a week. Yeah, I would say this customer made the right choice.
